Mekeil Williams earns international call-up with the Trinidad and Tobago national team

Colorado Rapids Soccer Club announced today that defender Mekeil Williams has been called up for international duty with the Trinidad and Tobago national team.


Williams joins the Soca Warriors ahead of their upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Panama on March 24 and Mexico on March 28.

The top three countries from CONCACAF Hexagonal will receive automatic berths at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The fourth-place team will play a two-leg series against the fifth-place team in the Asian Football Confederation. Currently, Trinidad and Tobago sit in fifth place with a 0-2-0 record.

To date, Williams has 15 caps for Trinidad and Tobago, logging 1,264 minutes and adding one goal. He appeared in three games for the Soca Warriors in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, including the quarterfinal loss against Panama. Williams also played the 90 minutes of the 1-0 loss against Haiti in the Copa America play-in match.


Williams joined the Rapids on February 4, 2016 and currently occupies an international slot. In his first season in MLS, Williams appeared in 21 games (14 starts) and was twice named to the MLS Team of the Week. This year, Williams made his regular season debut in the 2-2 draw against Minnesota United FC on March 18. He is joined in the T&T squad by Minnesota's Kevin Molino.
