Leagues Cup 2024

In a monumental new chapter for North American soccer, all 47 MLS and LIGA MX will pause their respective league seasons each summer and all 47 first division clubs in Canada, Mexico and the United States will compete in the World Cup-style tournament sanctioned by Concacaf.

From July 26 to August 25, the tournament will host games at MLS stadiums throughout the U.S. and Canada. Colorado will travel to Providence Park to face the Portland Timbers on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. MT. Days later, they will host LIGA MX side Club León at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park on Monday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. MT.

Format

  • The tournament is an official Concacaf competition.
  • All club MLS and LIGA MX clubs will participate.
  • It's a World Cup-style tournament with a group stage followed by knockout rounds.
  • Clubs are divided into three tiers based on the Leagues Cup Ranking, forming 15 groups of three clubs each, one club from each tier, prioritizing geographical and competitive balance.
  • The pool is divided into two regions, East and West, with seven groups in the East and eight groups in the West.
  • The tournament consists of 77 games hosted at MLS stadiums throughout the U.S. and Canada.

No ties

  • No ties in Leagues Cup 2024
  • Each team receives 1 point if the game is tied after 90 minutes.
  • The winner of the subsequent penalty shootout will earn an additional point.
  • Regulation wins count as three points.

Group Stage

  • Each club will play a minimum of two matches in group stage
  • The top two teams from each group will advance, based on group points
  • Tiebreakers and full competition guidelines will be published in the coming months
  • 2023 MLS Cup Champions Columbus Crew will skip the group stage and start at Round of 32
  • Club America, the club with the most combined points accumulated across both 2023 Clausura and Apertura tournaments, will skip the group stage and start at Round of 32

Knockout Rounds

  • Single game elimination
  • Round of 32: 16 matches
  • Round of 16: 8 matches
  • Quarterfinals: 4 matches
  • Semifinals
  • Third place match (winner qualifies for Concacaf Champions League)
  • Final on on Sunday, August 25 (both clubs qualify for Concacaf Champions League; Leagues Cup winner skips directly to Concacaf Champions League Round of 16)
