A blind draw by U.S. Soccer in Chicago on Thursday morning saw the Colorado Rapids draw familiar face FC Dallas in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. The Rapids will travel to Frisco, Texas for the match which will take place on June 27 or June 28. The date, kickoff and broadcast information for the match will be released in the days to come.
The Rapids advanced to the Round of 16 with a 3-2 win over Oklahoma City Energy FC on Tuesday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Despite trailing 2-0 at halftime, Pablo Mastroeni’s side saw second half goals from Dominique Badji, Eric Miller and Dennis Castillo put them through to Round of 16 of the tournament for the fourth straight year.
These sides met at the same stage of the U.S. Open Cup on June 29, 2016 in Frisco, Texas. The Rapids went out of the tournament as they fell 2-1 after an extra-time deflected effort from Maxi Urruti which put FC Dallas ahead for good.
