On Friday, Concacaf released the provisional rosters for each country for the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup competition. The Rapids are among the leaders in MLS with five players named to the 60-man lineup for the U.S.
Only four players from this initial Gold Cup roster were also a part of the trophy-winning Nations League squad from early June, including midfielder Kellyn Acosta. Acosta played in the last four USMNT matches, including playing the full 120 minutes at two different positions during the Nations League final victory over rival Mexico.
Also on the squad are defender Sam Vines and forward Jonathan Lewis, who most recently played with the U.S. U-23 squad for Olympic Qualification. Auston Trusty and Cole Bassett are also on this provisional roster after making the initial roster for qualification as well.
The tournament is set to begin for the U.S. on July 11, with the final on August 1. The Rapids are tied with D.C. United and FC Dallas for the most players to be named to the roster. The final 23-man squad will be named prior to the first game.
