Brazilian Edu begins trial with the Rapids

Commerce City, Colo. - Brazilian forward and veteran of Spain's La Liga Luis Eduardo Schmidt, better known as Edu, began a trial period with Colorado Rapids Wednesday by taking part in his first practice.


"Edu is a player with a strong history in Spain," coach Oscar Pareja told ColoradoRapids.com following the training sesssion. "He wanted to come to tryout, and I like to respect players with such trajectories. He made the request and we accepted it. He's coming here for a trial period because he wants to be part of this group, of MLS. We want to see how he looks at present because he's a player with a high profile. We're alway going to be looking to improve our roster."


After beginning his career with Brazil's Sao Paolo, the 33-year-old signed with Celta de Vigo in Spain's La Liga. He spent four years there before moving on to Real Betis, where he played from 2005 to 2009. He then returned to Brazil and has played with Internacional and Vitoria the past two years.
