It was expected that newly acquired forward Edson Buddle would miss the beginning of the Rapids' preseason while he was with the U.S. Men's National Team through the end of the month. However on Tuesday U.S. Soccer announced that Buddle injured his right knee and would be leaving the Carson, Calif. camp.
From U.S. Soccer's press release:
Buddle is experiencing problems in his right knee, which he previously injured last June. The Rapids medical staff will do further testing in Colorado. The 2010 FIFA World Cup veteran appeared as a sub in the USA’s first win against Italy last February in Genoa.
The U.S. will play their first match of 2013 on Jan. 29 against Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. No replacement will be brought in for Buddle, or San Jose Earthquakes defender Steven Beitashour, who was also injured.
