Casey has successful sports hernia surgery

Commerce City, Colo. - Rapids forward Conor Casey underwent successful sports hernia surgery today in a procedure performed by Dr. William Hutchinson in Santa Monica, Calif. As he returns from the surgery, Casey will continue to rehabilitate his Achilles tendon.

Casey will resume a light rehabilitation program on his Achilles tendon on Tuesday, and will begin a full running program in approximately two weeks. His expected return to full participation with the team is 4-6 weeks.

The forward traveled to Los Angeles this week for further evaluation after experiencing pain during his rehab exercises, and the medical staff determined that surgery would be necessary for the sports hernia. The forward has been rehabilitating a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered last July 16 in a match at Seattle Sounders FC, and remains on schedule with his original timetable from that injury.

The Rapids are currently in San Luis Obispo, Calif., preparing for an exhibition match on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. PT against the San Jose Earthquakes.
