COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, November 1, 2012) –The Colorado Rapids announced on Thursday that the team will play three preseason matches in Tucson, Ariz. in early 2013. Several MLS teams will participate in the Desert Friendlies Presented by FC Tucson, where the Rapids will face the Portland Timbers on January 29, the Houston Dynamo on January 31, and a third, to-be-determined team on February 2.
The series of preseason matches has been organized by FC Tucson, a Premier Development League (PDL) team, and will include the Rapids, Dynamo, Timbers, New England Revolution, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC, and Sporting Kansas City, with matches taking place at the Kino Sports Complex. Tickets to the games will go on sale in November. Colorado will continue to release information on the team’s preseason plans as it becomes available.

The Rapids previously traveled to Arizona during preseason in 2010 and 2011, though both trips were to the Phoenix area. In 2010, Colorado faced the Columbus Crew, LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake at the Casa Grande Performance Institute, and in 2011, the club took on Sporting KC, the Crew and the Galaxy at the Westside Complex.
The Colorado Rapids, who recently closed the 2012 season and will continue to train for the next two weeks at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, will open preseason camp in mid-January of 2013.
