After what’s felt like the longest offseason ever, the Colorado Rapids are starting their preparations for the 2021 season.
Last week, Rapids players began reporting to DICK’s Sporting Goods Park for preseason medical evaluations, COVID-19 testing and voluntary individual training sessions. Today, the club announced its full preseason roster, complete with the current team, select players from the Rapids Academy and players invited on trial. The team also began voluntary group sessions in Colorado.
Next week, the Rapids will depart for Tucson, Ariz., on March 8, where they will host their preseason training camp through April 11. While in Tucson, the Rapids will play friendlies against USL Championship and fellow MLS sides in preparation of the 2021 MLS season, which kicks off on April 17.
Four current players will not be at training camp because of international duty. Cole Bassett, Jonathan Lewis, Auston Trusty and Sam Vines will be training with the U-23 MNT in Guadalajara, ahead of Olympic qualifiers. The Rapids lead all teams with four players on the 31-man roster.
Additional information on the Rapids’ preseason match schedule and opponents will be provided at a later date.
