Colorado Rapids pair Shane O'Neill and Dillon Serna must wait until the final round of group matches to discover whether they will have one more outing for the USA's U-23s at the Toulon Tournament in France.
The USA has played their four group matches, wrapping up things with a 1-0 win over Qatar on Tuesday, leaving them on six points and third in the standings, behind France (9pts) and the Netherlands (6pts). The Netherlands are second, and in the running to play the third-place playoff match, courtesy of a better goal difference.
France and the Netherlands meet on Thursday, as do Costa Rica and Qatar. Andreas Herzog's side could finish second. They could also end up fourth in the group, should Costa Rica defeat Qatar by more than one goal.
O'Neill played every minute of the first three matches, against France (L 3-1), the Netherlands (W 3-1) and Costa Rica (L 2-1). He sat out the narrow win over Qatar. Serna, meanwhile, went the distance against the Netherlands and Costa Rica, but came off the bench in the other two games.
The Colorado club's Homegrown Players were a part of the US senior side's training camp in January, and are very much in the frame for the U-23s as they build toward the qualifying campaign for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
O'Neill has worn the captain's arm-band during the Toulon Tournament. The match with Qatar was the first O'Neill had missed for the U-23s this year.
Both players are due to return to the Rapids in time for the visit of Colorado Springs Switchbacks (June 16, U.S. Open Cup) and FC Dallas (June 19). For tickets to those matches, click HERE.
