COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids forward Diego Rubio has been called up by the Chilean national team ahead of its upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Peru and Venezuela on October 12 and 17, respectively.
Rubio, 30, is in his fifth season with the Rapids after being traded from Sporting Kansas City ahead of the 2019 season. Since joining the club, Rubio has climbed the rankings of the Rapidsā history books, recently scoring his 38th regular-season goal against Vancouver FC on Sept. 27, 2023, which ranks as the third-most goals scored all-time in club history. In 2022, Rubio equaled the Rapidsā single-season scoring record (16) and set a record for most single-season goal contributions (23; 16 goals, 7 assists).
Rubio earned his first national team call-up in 2011, making his debut in an international friendly against Paraguay that year. In his international career, he has totaled 12 appearances, recording an assist in a friendly against Honduras in 2019. He most recently made an appearance in March 28, 2023, in an international friendly against Paraguay.
