With five wins and seven games without a loss, the Colorado Rapids are providing their fans plenty of fireworks as they continue their march toward the playoff line in the Western Conference. They host a New England Revolution squad Thursday night that has also sparkled under a new coach and is six games unbeaten.
The Rapids (5-9-4) did what only the Vancouver Whitecaps have been able to do this year — beat LAFC. Colorado handed the Supporters' Shield leaders their second defeat of the season, winning 1-0 at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park last Friday night. After a scoreless first half, Danny Wilson rose tallest on a Jack Price corner kick to head home in the 49th minute, not long before the match was delayed for more than an hour due to lightning in the area.
The Revolution (5-8-5) also took a step toward jumping over the playoff line in the East when they beat the Houston Dynamo, 2-1, at Gillette Stadium last Saturday. Trailing 1-0 following a Darwin Ceren goal in the 25th minute, Antonio Delamea leveled in the 51st minute before Teal Bunbury latched onto a cross from second-half substitute Cristian Penilla to net the stoppage-time winner.
