After the Rapids finished their 0-0 draw against Chivas USA, the team had to wait until the end of the day to learn their opponent for the fourth and final match of the Desert Diamond Cup. Colorado will take on the New England Revolution at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
The opponent was decided to avoid having any rematches on the final day. The original opponent for the Rapids, based on the standings, should have been Chivas USA, who Colorado has faced twice in the last two weeks this preseason.
GOALKEEPERS PUT IN EXTRA WORK
With Clint Irwin not playing against Chivas on Wednesday, and Joe Nasco and John Berner only getting part of the game, goalkeeper coach Chris Sharpe ran the trio through some extra work. The goalkeepers went to the fields at Kino Sports Complex earlier in the day and went through a workout before preparing for the match.
COACHES STAY BEHIND
After the Chivas match and then a late lunch, the front of the team bus back to the hotel was a bit emptier than usual, as the technical staff stayed at Kino Sports Complex. Along with Technical Director Paul Bravo, the coaches remained behind to review the match and take in some of the final two games of the day (Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake vs. FC Tucson).
CONGRATULATIONS EARNED
While Deshorn Brown and Marvin Chávez couldn’t quite break through in the second half against Chivas, both players still received plenty of congratulations back in the locker room postgame. Other players received word about their call-ups to the Jamaican and Honduran national teams respectively and offered well wishes.
Brown is expected to join the Jamaican team before the Rapids’ final Desert Diamond Cup match on Saturday, while Chavez will meet up with Honduras in the early part of next week.
