Dick's Sporting Goods Park seemed the place to practice on Wednesday. Not only did the Colorado Rapids return to the turf fields, for their last session before heading to New York, but they were joined by Denver Police, whose helicopter was practicing take-off and landings in the stadium parking lot (pictured below).
With practice taking place on turf, midfielder Vicente Sánchez dipped in and out of the session. Goalkeeper Clint Irwin worked closely with coach Chris Sharpe, as he continues to recover from a quad strain, sustained in the team's last preseason game, against New England Revolution. Fellow-keeper Joe Nasco remains in Atlanta, with his wife Amber and their newborn daughter, Caroline.
Brian Mullan was not involved in the session. He continues to rehab following surgery during the offseason. Danny Mwanga and Davy Armstrong stepped out when teammates started the scrimmage.
For the rest, it was business as usual. Exercises focusing on the touch and movement were followed by a scrimmage, with Head Coach
Pablo Mastroeni
stopping play at regular intervals to dish out his advice.
The team departs for Newark on Thursday morning. They will train on Friday in New Jersey, before tackling the New York Red Bulls in their opening game of the regular season on Saturday, kick-off 2 p.m MT.
