Following his impressive showing in the Rapids' home opener against Atlanta United, striker Diego Rubio earned himself a spot on the league's Team of the Week on Monday.
Rubio recorded a goal and assist in Colorado's 3-0 thrashing of the Five Stripes in the Week 2 matchup. The Chilean striker put the Rapids on the board first in the 33rd minute with a header assisted by Michael Barrios, then earned an assist himself early into the second half when he connected with Jonathan Lewis in the box.
"[Diego] had a fantastic game today and everybody just needs to believe in him––I believe in him, the coaching staff believes in him," said teammate Jonathan Lewis post-game. "We trust him to score goals, we trust him to create things and he works hard. We believe in him and he showed it today."
Coming off of a five goal, six assist 2021 campaign, Rubio started the new year hot with two goals during the Rapids' preseason. His performance against Atlanta solidified the potential for an exciting 2022 season from the striker.
"I'm feeling very good," he said post-game on Saturday. "We attacked them, we pressed them, we were very consistent. We won, we got a clean sheet, so we're happy and I'm happy."
