COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, February 12, 2014) – The Colorado Rapids acquired allocation money in a trade with FC Dallas on Wednesday, with midfielder Hendry Thomas heading to Dallas in exchange. The Honduran midfielder played one and a half seasons with the Rapids, featuring in 35 matches and scoring two goals. The allocation money that the team acquired can be used in signing players or buying down players’ salary cap numbers.
“The allocation money that we’ve gotten in this deal will give us flexibility to continue adding strength and depth to our squad,” said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo.
“We had negotiated with Hendry during the offseason but ultimately we decided to move in other directions, so we’re glad to get value in return at this point. He was an important part of our team over the last two years, and we want to thank him for his professionalism and contributions to our club.”
Thomas signed with the Rapids in August of 2012, playing in Colorado’s final eight matches of the season, then playing 27 matches in 2013, scoring twice and adding one assist in his time with the club. He previously played in England at Wigan Athletic, joining the then Premier League team from Club Deportivo Olimpia, where he spent his first eight seasons as a professional.
The midfielder played with the Honduras National Team at the 2008 Olympics and 2010 FIFA World Cup, making his most recent appearance for his country in September of 2011.
