Homegrown Kortne Ford Asks for Rapids Community's Support During Mother's Battle with Cancer

Rapids Homegrown center back Kortne Ford announced on Wednesday afternoon that after a years-long battle with cancer, his mother Laurie Ford will discontinue treatment to focus on quality of life and spend time with loved ones. A GoFundMe created by Kortne has already surpassed its $10,000 goal to help fund the hydration treatments for Laurieā€™s pain relief, with $23,875 raised so far.

Since being diagnosed with cancer in 2009, Laurie Ford has fought bravely and continued to support her son, Kortne, as he rose through the Rapids Academy and eventually signed a Homegrown Contract with the Rapids. From celebrating Laurie Ford Day to raising $10,000 from a signed Rapids jersey to pay for tests, the Rapids community has continually showed up for the Fords during Laurieā€™s battle. The Fords will always be a member of the Rapids family.Ā
