On Decision Day, the Colorado Rapids will take on Los Angeles FC for their final regular season game. Kickoff at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park is set for 4:00 PM.

Past Matchups

The Rapids and LAFC have only faced off once in the last two years. In May, LAFC took three points at Banc of California Stadium for a 2-1 Rapids loss. After going down two goals in the first half, Colorado battled to put a point on the board when Michael Barrios scored his first goal of the season in the 50th minute.

Current Form

LAFC is currently on a six-game unbeaten streak, most recently drawing with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 1-1, to give the Whitecaps an important point in their run for a playoff berth. Despite not having lost in six games, LAFC hasn’t clinched a playoff spot. Bob Bradley’s side will be desperate on Sunday for three points on the road to keep the team’s post-regular season hopes alive. Without at least a win, LAFC will not advance to the playoffs.

Key Players to Know

Cristian Arango is effectively holding the torch for LAFC’s playoff chances. Despite not arriving to the West Coast side until August, the Colombian forward has racked up 13 goals on the season already, seven of which he scored in the last five games. Designated Player Carlos Vela, when fully healthy, is another LAFC striker that can cause a Rapids’ defensive headache. He’s made limited appearances lately due to an injury, but did see time late into LA’s draw with Vancouver as Bradley attempted to pull out all the stops to secure a win. Vela might again see time on the pitch in LAFC’s last-ditch Decision Day attempt to make the playoffs.

On the Pitch

  • The Rapids and LAFC faced off on Decision Day once already in 2019.
  • In order to clinch a playoff berth, LAFC would have to beat the Rapids on the road, hope that Real Salt Lake wins neither of its final two games with Portland and Sporting Kansas City, and see the Galaxy lose or draw at home with Minnesota in their final match.
  • This will be the first time midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye faces off against his former club since joining the Rapids in July.
  • LAFC holds a 12-12-9 record this season to amount to 45 points in the Western Conference, while recording 4-9-3 on the road.
