Ricardo Perez, on loan from the Colorado Rapids, featured in the two recent matches for USL side Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
The Homegrown midfielder played 70 minutes last Wednesday’s 0-0 draw at Portland Timbers 2 - which earned bottom team Timbers only their fourth point of the season - before going 71 minutes in the team’s 3-1 loss at Vancouver Whitecaps 2 on Sunday. The Switchbacks out-shot the Whitecaps 22-7, but still came off second best.
Charlotte Independence, the Rapids’ USL affiliate, were not involved at the weekend, but they were in fine form last Thursday as they romped to a 5-1 home win over defending champions New York Red Bulls 2. They currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference (2-2-2), but have games in hand on most of the sides around them.
The Independence are involved in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup action this Wednesday, when they travel to PDL neighbors Charlotte Eagles for a second round encounter. Meanwhile, the Switchbacks are home to PDL side FC Tucson in the U.S. Open Cup, also on Wednesday.
