Charlotte Independence slipped out of the playoff places on Saturday with a 2-1 loss at Indy Eleven, a result which also extended their winless stretch to seven games.
The Rapids’ USL affiliate have gone 0-3-4 during this difficult run, with their last success being on June 2 at Ottawa Fury.
Independence head coach Mike Jeffries was only able to name 16 players, which included three on-loan from the Rapids. Andrew Dykstraplayed the full 90 minutes, while Sam Vines was replaced by Mutaya Mwape with four minutes remaining. Ricardo Perez an unused substitute.
Vines contributed his second assist for the team, as Jorge Herrera scored the game’s opening goal on 50 minutes. Indy Eleven hit back with two goals in the space of eight minutes, before Bilal Duckett was dismissed for a second caution. Duckett will miss Wednesday’s home match with Nashville SC.
Sam Hamilton was involved in the Colorado Springs Switchbacks’ goal on Saturday, as they tied 1-1 at OKC Energy FC. His first assist for the club allowed Shane Malcolm to level just after the interval. Hamilton played the entire game.
The Switchbacks are without a win in three and are clinging onto the last remaining playoff place in the Western Conference courtesy of more wins. They are home to Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday. Sacramento are without a win in four but sit two places and five points higher in the standings.
