Rapids midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye earned his second MLS Team of the Week nod of the 2022 season after scoring the second goal in Colorado's 2-0 shutout of Portland over the weekend. The Canadian international put the nail in the Timbers' coffin on Saturday night as he split two defenders to drive the ball home in the 95th minute at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park.
Kaye took three shots on the night over his 90 minutes plus stoppage time played. His scoring counterpart, Diego Rubio, was sent off in the 63rd minute due to yellow card accumulation, but Kaye and the rest of the Rapids offense stayed the course for the remainder of the game, leading to the midfielder's eventual last-minute goal.
The matchup with Portland sealed a six-game unbeaten streak against the Timbers in the regular season, despite Colorado falling to the Western Conference opponent in the 2021 MLS Cup playoffs.
Kaye is slated to travel to Qatar with the Canadian National Team at the conclusion of the MLS season for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. John Herdman's side qualified for the world's biggest competition for the first time in 37 years after finishing at the top of the Octagonal in March.
