Rapids fans, meet Rachel Vigil. Rachel is going to be the eyes and the ears on the ground for the fans throughout the MLS is Back tournament. Since you’re going to see her face across our social channels and website, we thought it was important for you to learn a little bit about her and what she's going to bring to you, the fans.
Some may remember Rachel from the first home match of the 2020 season, as she appeared on the DICK'S Sporting Goods Jumbotron as our in-stadium host. In addition, she works as an on-air talent covering the Western Athletic Conference and utilizes her background as a soccer player to cover the men's and women's teams. A Colorado native, Rachel went to Colorado State University and worked as a sideline reporter for football and host for men’s and women’s basketball.
Now, for the Rapids, she plans to give our audience a different look at the tournament.
“I hope to give a unique, first-hand perspective to all the fans," Rachel said. "I have all the same questions that you do about life in the bubble and what this tournament will look like, so I want to provide as much information as possible. Feel free to reach out via social media or submit your questions to the Rapids for mailbags. I’ll be the eyes and ears on the ground giving you all the details.”
In addition to on the Rapids channels, Rachel will be doing daily on-camera work with Altitude TV and Altitude Radio. Altitude's Sports Social is set to continue on Altitude TV every weekday from 6:30-7 PM, with a Rapids focus every Wednesday, so keep an eye out for Rachel there.
"I’m excited to show everyone what life in the 'bubble' is like, and how the team is looking at training. I’ll be your go-to girl for Rapids content on the ground."
As for what she’s looking forward to most when covering the team in Orlando – there’s almost too much to describe.
"I’m really excited about the opportunity to work alongside a stellar team and be a part of history! As a Colorado native, the opportunity to cover my hometown team and watch them rock this tournament is something I couldn’t even dream up. I’m also looking forward to connecting with this Rapids fan base. I loved getting to meet some of you at the home opener and I’m hoping to virtually connect with more of you down in Orlando."
The Rapids will look to continue the team's undefeated start to the season on July 12 at 8:30 PM on ESPN when they take on rival Real Salt Lake.
"Fans should be excited about this tournament and this team. Coach Robin Fraser and the front office have done a great job of putting together this squad. They started off the season hot, being one of only four teams in the MLS to win their first two matches, and from what I’ve gathered, this team is fired up to continue that in Orlando."
Keep an eye out for Rachel in our upcoming content, and be sure to follow her on Twitter and Instagram for more inside coverage from Orlando.
