The accolades keep coming in for the Colorado Rapids.
Three Rapids were named to the MLS Team of the Week for the second week in a row. Homegrown defender Sam Vines was named to the MLS starting XI for Week 23, while defender Danny Wilson and midfielder Kellyn Acosta were named to the Team of the Week bench.
This is Vines’ second consecutive Team of the Week selection. The 21-year-old Homegrown is the only player on Colorado who has played every minute this season. Vines picked up an assist on Sunday against Seattle and helped regain possession at midfield to begin the spell that led to Acosta’s playoff-clinching goal against Portland.
Wilson earned his first Team of the Week selection after playing a full 90 minutes in the Rapids’ 1-0 shutout win over Portland. Wilson has made nine appearances for Colorado in 2020 and started three of the Rapids’ four clean sheets this season.
Acosta, of course, earned his selection courtesy of his game-winning goal at Portland on Wednesday to punch Colorado’s ticket to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with a game to spare. Acosta came on as a second-half substitute and finished a lovely sequence from Diego Rubio and Younes Namli to seal the victory.
These Team of the Week selections are in addition to defender Keegan Rosenberry winning MLS Goal of the Week for his wicked, game-winning strike off the volley against Seattle on Sunday.
Acosta’s goal is a finalist for this week’s Goal of the Week. Click here to vote for Acosta
