The Rapids are looking full speed ahead this week as the team prepares for their next big Western Conference matchup on Sunday, the Rapids Academy continues to dominate, and a couple key players are getting closer to returning to the lineup. Here are this week's news and notes.
Rapids Train Hard in Preparation for Vancouver
This week, training is back in full swing, as everything is focused on the matchup against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday.
In a welcome return, there have even been some Lalas Abubakar and Sam Vines sightings on the training pitch this week.
The Whitecaps have had strong showings in their first two matches but are sorting through issues of their own – as displayed after they gave up a game-tying goal in the 82nd minute against Toronto last weekend. Click here for an early look at Sunday’s upcoming matchup.
Kellyn Acosta Standing Out Across MLS
Acosta currently leads MLS with eight tackles won through his first 180 minutes of play at left back. This would be impressive for any player, but especially one that is playing on the back line and out of his natural position. Acosta also has seven interceptions, the most of any player on the team.
With he is enjoying such a strong run of form, it will be exciting to see how Acosta continues to track in the U.S. men’s national team field following two consecutive starts in international play during his last call-up. The next USMNT match is set to take place on June 3, when the U.S. takes on Honduras in the first-ever CONCACAF Nations League semifinal right here in Denver.
