Snow is guaranteed not to be in the forecast Saturday night in Portland, unlike the Snow Clasico in the season opener between these teams, a wild 3-3 draw at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park in March.
The Timbers (7-8-2) did what no team has been able to do this year - beat NYCFC at Yankee Stadium. Thanks to a Sebastian Blanco first-half goal, the final scoreline was the same in Portland's previous two trips to the Bronx. The victory was the club's third in their last four games.
The Rapids (5-10-4) had a seven-match unbeaten streak snapped in a 2-1 loss to the New England Revolution on July 4. The match took nearly six hours to complete due to several lengthy weather delays. After falling into a two-goal hole on goals by Teal Bunbury and Juan Fernando Caicedo,
Diego Rubio
pulled the hosts to within a goal in the 71st minute, but that as close as Colorado would come.
In that wild season-opening 3-3 draw in Commerce City,
Andre Shinyashiki
scored the dramatic equalizer four minutes into second-half stoppage time for the 10-man Rapids.
