Preseason officially gets underway with entrance exams

The countdown to MLS First Kick has official begun.


The Colorado Rapids roster players and invitees reported for the official first day of preseason on Thursday, undergoing entrance physicals at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The players will now complete two days of fitness work before beginning tactical sessions on Monday.


The average age of the 23 players on the roster as of Thursday, Jan. 17 is 25.8 years old. The players at the stadium today were: Pablo Mastroeni, Drew Moor, Matt Pickens, Marvell Wynne, Brian Mullan, Atiba Harris, Marin Rivero, Anthony Wallace, Davy Armstrong, Andre Akpan, Tony Cascio, Chris Klute, Stew Ceus, Kamani Hill, Nathan Sturgis, and Hendry Thomas.


Newly signed Diego Calderon and Jaime Castrillon are expected to arrive over the after receiving their visa's this past week. Kevin Harbottle, signed on Friday, is in the process of obtaining the necessary paperwork to come from his native, Chile. Forward Edson Buddle is currently with the U.S. Men's National Team and midfielder Shane O'Neill is with the U.S. U-20 National Team.


Signed draft picks Deshorn Brown and Dillon Powers, as well as the team’s second-round selection, Kory Kindle, will report on Jan. 21.


The team will train for a week in Commerce City before departing late next week for Tucson, Ariz. to participate in the Desert Friendlies.
