Rapids 2 Announce Dillon Serna as First Player Signing

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Colorado Rapids 2 announced today the signing of midfielder Dillon Serna as the club’s first rostered player ahead of its inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season.

“We’re excited to welcome Dillon back to the club as the first player of our Rapids 2 roster,” said Brian Crookham, Rapids 2 General Manager. “Dillon has been through every step of the player development process with us, from starting in our academy to getting called up to U.S. youth national teams and signing with the First Team. His familiarity with the club and our philosophy, along with his admirable character on and off the pitch, make him the ideal player to spearhead this new project.”

A product of the Rapids Academy, Serna returns to Colorado where he made his professional debut as a Homegrown Player in 2013. The 27-year-old made 112 appearances across all competitions during his seven seasons with the Rapids, recording 12 goals and three assists in that span. Following his departure from the club in 2019, Serna signed with Sporting Kansas City II in the USL Championship where he made 15 appearances and provided four assists during the condensed 2020 season. Serna returned to Colorado to join Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC ahead of the 2021 season, but an injury suffered in preseason limited him to eight appearances that year.

“It’s definitely special to be back with the club,” said Serna. “I am very excited for this opportunity and believe I have a lot to offer the team on and off the pitch.”

Rapids 2 will play in the recently launched MLS NEXT Pro, providing a defined pathway for players in the Rapids system to reach the professional ranks. The team’s full roster, schedule and venue information will be announced at a later date.
