COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Rapids Academy products Adam Beaudry and Zackory Campagnolo have been called up to the U.S. U-17 Men’s Youth National Team for the upcoming Vaclav Jezek Tournament taking place in September, U.S. Soccer announced today. Beaudry and Campagnolo will occupy the only two goalkeeper roster spots on the U.S. U-17 side.
The pair of goalkeepers will travel to the Czech Republic to train and compete with the U.S. from Sept. 1-11 in the Vaclav Jezek Tournament. The team will play three matches during the tournament against Ukraine (Sept. 6), Switzerland (Sept. 8), and Czech Republic (Sept. 10).Â
Beaudry joined the U.S. U-17 team for training camp in April as they continued their preparation for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, scheduled to take place from Nov. 10-Dec. 2 in Indonesia. The U.S. was one of four teams to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup at February’s Concacaf U-17 Championship in Guatemala. During his time at the Concacaf U-17 Championship, Beaudry helped his team to a spot in the final where the U.S. fell short to Mexico in a 3-1 loss. The Rapids goalkeeper made three starts for the U-17s during the tournament and recorded two clean sheets and three wins for his side.
“Adam has been fantastic for the club for the past 18 months and his growth has been exceptional,” said Chris Sharpe, Colorado Rapids Assistant & Goalkeeper Coach, Rapids Academy Goalkeeper Director. “He has played with both our Rapids Academy U-17 team, and most recently, our MLS NEXT Pro side Rapids 2 and he is performing at a very high level week in and out. With the World Cup coming up, these will be important games for him to solidify his position as a key member within the group while continuing his development.”
Beaudry is entering his second year with the Rapids organization after a successful youth career with Real Colorado. He currently occupies a starting position on the club’s MLS NEXT Pro side Colorado Rapids 2. So far this season, Beaudry has appeared in 14 matches (14 starts) and has maintained three clean sheets to help his team to a first place standing in the Western Conference. His performances over the course of the 2023 season have earned Beaudry a MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Month award for both May and July, along with a Rising Star of Matchday award.
Campagnolo, 16, joined the Rapids Academy as an addition to the U-17 team in August 2023 after spending three seasons with the Orlando City Academy. Campagnolo started his time with Orlando City’s U-15 side in 2020 before joining the U-17s at the beginning of the 2022-23 MLS NEXT season. During his time with Orlando City, the goalkeeper had the opportunity to spend time with Sporting Portugal in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2022 and Germany’s FC Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, in 2023.
“Zack has only been with us for a short time, but in recruiting him we felt we have found the best 2007 goalkeeper in the country who also fits our club's goalkeeper profile to a tee,” said Sharpe. “This call up to the U-17 camp reaffirms our beliefs. In the last month and a half, Zack has shown maturity beyond his years, a large capacity to learn and begun to take on the new processes we are putting into his game to great effect. This will be a wonderful experience for Zack playing a year up and wonderful for the club having two goalkeepers in the same camp.”
The Florida-born goalkeeper brings with him prior national team experience, having earned call ups to both the U.S. U-15 and U-16 Men’s Youth National Teams. Campagnolo made his first official national team debut in 2022 at the Torneo Delle Nazioni, Italy, playing in three matches against Slovenia, Italy and Portugal. He also earned himself the Man of the Match honor for his performance against Italy during the Italy-based tournament. Campagnolo made the jump to the U-16 team in November 2022, earning a call up for the Football Federations Cup in Spain where he made two appearances for the team in their matches against Spain and England. Most recently, Campagnolo joined the U-16s for the International Dream Cup in Fukushima, Japan, in May 2023.
