Colorado Rapids will travel to Houston Dynamo on Tuesday, June 30 for their Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 encounter, kickoff 6:30 p.m MT.
This will be the first meeting of the two clubs in the competition's history, and now means the Rapids face three road games in a row (with back-to-back MLS games at Orlando City and Sporting Kansas City).
The sides met in the league at BBVA Compass Stadium back in March, with the Rapids registering their third successive 0-0 draw.
If the Rapids progress, then they would go to the winners of Sporting KC vs. FC Dallas for a quarterfinal matchup on July 21 or 22. Beyond that, the Rapids would face the team to emerge from the West (Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes or LA Galaxy) in the last four.
The Rapids were beaten finalists in the 1999 edition of this competition, losing out to Rochester Raging Rhinos of the A-League (a forerunner to USL) 2-0. Houston have twice reached the semifinals, in 2006 and 2009.
Houston came through their fourth round tie on Wednesday night, defeating Austin Aztex 2-0. The Rapids overcame Colorado Springs Switchbacks 4-1 on Tuesday. (FULL DRAW).
It is back to MLS duty for the Rapids this Friday, when FC Dallas visit Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m (TICKETS).
