COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, July 31, 2013) – The Colorado Rapids have loaned defender Davy Armstrong to Phoenix FC of the USL Professional Division for the final three matches of the Arizona club’s regular season. Armstrong has already joined Phoenix and could play in Wednesday’s match against the Harrisburg City Islanders.
“This is a great opportunity for Davy to play in competitive matches, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he does in Phoenix,” said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. “He is a talented player and we hope this experience will help him continue to push for first team minutes when he returns.”
Armstrong, 21, was signed by the Rapids on August 16, 2010 as the club’s first Homegrown Player. He has played in U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League matches, and made his MLS debut on October 27, 2012, in a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo. This season, Armstrong has played as a midfielder and a defender in eight Reserve Team matches, playing 598 minutes and notching one assist.
The Rapids went undefeated in MLS play during the month of July and are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak, with four wins and two draws since June 29. This Saturday, Colorado has a chance to win back the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup from rivals Real Salt Lake in the third and final meeting between the teams.
