The Colorado Rapids have loaned Homegrown defender Kortne Ford to San Antonio FC in the USL Championship, the club announced today. Under the terms of the loan, the Rapids retain the right to recall Ford at any point during the 2021 regular season, in accordance with MLS roster compliance rules.
“Kortne has shown extraordinary resilience to overcome his horrific injury and return to regular activity with our First Team,” said Pádraig Smith, Rapids Executive VP and General Manager. “We’re confident this loan will provide him an opportunity to accelerate the progress he has made by earning consistent playing time.”
Ford, 25, is in his fifth professional season after first joining the Rapids Academy in 2012. The Greeley, Colo., native played soccer at the University of Denver before signing a Homegrown Player contract in January 2017. Ford made 20 appearances, 19 of them starts, for Colorado in his rookie year and scored in a 1-0 win over Sporting KC at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in May 2017. He then played 15 MLS matches in 2018 but consequently suffered two knee injuries and did not appear in 2019 or 2020.
