Rapids Reserves to face New Mexico on Sunday

Reserves v Nebraska 2

The Rapids Reserves will take on the University of New Mexico this Sunday at 11 a.m. on Field 20 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, taking on collegiate opposition for the second straight weekend. The match will be open to the public.

Last Sunday, the Rapids Reserves topped the University of Nebraska Omaha 3-1 in their first match of 2014, and will play a 10-game official league schedule, starting on April 27 at the Seattle Sounders (more information here).

The University of New Mexico is coming off an incredibly successful season in which the team advanced to the national semifinal match, where the Lobos fell to eventual champion Notre Dame. The Lobos feature a pair of Rapids Academy players on their roster in leading scorer James Rodgers and defender Chris Gurule.

With a first team match the night before, the Rapids Reserves will likely use a similar lineup to the team that beat Omaha. A mixture of players on the first team roster who do not play against Sporting Kansas City, as well as members of the Rapids Academy, will likely get minutes against New Mexico.
