Rapids en route to Hawaii

The Colorado Rapids departed early Sunday morning for Honolulu, Hawaii, where they'll continue preseason training and play in the Hawaiian Islands Invitational. Twenty-nine players will take part in the camp that runs through February 26.


In Honolulu, the team will scrimmage Hawaii Pacific University on Tuesday, and face Yokahama FC (Japan) on Thursday in the first match of the Hawaiian Islands Invitational. The team will then play either Busan (South Korea) or Melbourne (Australia) on Saturday, February 25. Both matches of the Hawaiian Islands Invitational will be shown live on ESPN3.


The following players will be going to Hawaii:


Goalkeepers: Matt PIckens, Stew Ceus, Ian Joyce, Joel Helmick,


Defenders: Drew Moor, Eddie Ababio, Tyrone Marshall, Kosuke Kimura, Marvell Wynne, Scott Palguta, Luis Zapata, George Brislen-Hall

Forwards: Omar Cummings, Andre Akpan, Quincy Amarikwa, Josh Janniere.

Note: Newly signed midfielder Martin Rivero is tentatively scheduled to join the team in Honolulu on Tuesday...Forwar Omar Cummings will depart on February 25 to join his Jamaican National Team for a friendly in New Zealand...The following players who are recovering from injuries remained in Colorado for treatment: Anthony Wallace, Jaime Smith, Conor Casey, and Hunter Freeman.


Note II: Following last Friday's practice, the team released trialists Aaron Pitchkolan, Isaac Cowles, Sterling Copeland, Jefferson Angulo, Daniel Frias, Alonso Jimenez, and Masaki Hemmi.
