MLS and adidas are launching special One Planet kits for all teams to wear for Week 9. This is a mass-awareness opportunity to educate fans on sustainability best practices within their homes and how MLS and adidas are working together to help end plastic waste.
The One Planet kits share the message of “one planet, one chance” and are made in part from recycled plastic. The design is an interpretation of the oceans that benefit from adidas’ commitment to re-imagining plastic waste.
So, what’s the process like to use recycled plastic in clothing?
INTERCEPT: adidas intercepts plastics before they reach the ocean in high-risk environments
SHRED: These plastics then go through a shredding process MELT: That shredded plastic is then melted down in preparation for threading
THREAD: The final step is for the melted plastic to be mixed and threaded into a material that can be used to then create our performance products.
Rapids fans will have an opportunity to bid on game-worn One Planet jerseys through an online auction, which starts April 22 and runs through April 30.
Jerseys are available to purchase online MLS store or Altitude Authentics and at the team store at DSG Park on gameday.
