The Rapids recorded a decisive win on Monday afternoon after defeating Querétaro FC 5-1 in their second preseason scrimmage of 2024. Calvin Harris earned a second-half brace in the matchup, while Cole Bassett, Braian Galván and Darren Yapi each scored a goal apiece.
Both teams agreed to play four 25-minute periods in the scrimmage.
Bassett started the scoring off early after a shot from Djordje Mihailovic was blocked and the Homegrown tapped in the rebound in the 13th minute. Galván doubled Colorado’s lead in the 41st, getting on the end of a long cross to take his time and line up a far-post shot.
The second half saw a wholesale substitution. SuperDraft and Generation adidas striker Kimani Stewart-Baynes subbed on in the 73rd minute after Omir Fernandez took a hard challenge outside the box and had an immediate impact, assisting Harris on his first goal of the scrimmage.
Querétaro got on the board in the 80th minute with their lone goal of the evening.
Darren Yapi and Ralph Priso then combined for a fourth Rapids’ goal just minutes later, and Harris put an exclamation point on the match with a 100th-minute goal to complete his brace.
The Rapids face one more opponent before returning to Colorado. Their closed-door matchup with Atlante FC is slated for 11 a.m. MT on Friday, February 2.
