Reserves: Dallas takes 3-1 win over Rapids in rainy match

Rapids reserves vs FC Dallas reserves Wallace kick

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Sunday, September 15, 2013) – The FC Dallas Reserves earned a 3-1 victory over the Rapids Reserves on a rainy Sunday morning in Colorado, with three goals scored in the final 10 minutes of action. After a scoreless first half, Dallas took a 2-0 lead before the Rapids got back into the match, but the visitors were able to get a late goal to seal the result. The Dallas Reserves improve to 3-6-1 (W-L-T) on the season, while the Rapids Reserves fall to 4-7-2.

Dallas opened the match strongly, getting a chance just four minutes in, when Danny Garcia found a shot from 20 yards, but his chip went over the bar. Colorado goalkeeper Matt Pickens had to be sharp in the 22nd minute, saving a low shot from Kenny Cooper, and again in the 25th when he charged out to stop an open player on the back post. The Rapids had a few first half chances at the other end, with Tony Cascio and Anthony Wallace combining to create several looks at goal.

The visitors broke through early in the second half when a corner kick from Michel was driven into the six yard box, where it bounced to Cooper, who knocked it in for a 1-0 lead. The Rapids put pressure on Dallas to find the tying goal, with the best chance coming off the head of Germán Mera from a Wallace corner kick in minute 70, but it went just wide. A counterattack then gave Dallas a 2-0 lead in the 83rd minute, when Garcia pushed the ball into the Colorado box, where the ball deflected to the feet of Ramón Nuñez, who placed his shot into the side netting.

The Rapids pulled within one goal with little time remaining, when Nick LaBrocca played a long ball behind the defense to Martín Rivero, who chipped a shot over Chris Seitz. As Colorado pushed to get an equalizer, Dallas struck again on the counter, with Eric Hassli playing a low ball to Victor Ulloa just before the final whistle to make the final 3-1.

FC Dallas Reserves will host Toronto FC in their next match on September 25, while the Rapids Reserves will close their season this Saturday in Portland at 7 p.m. MT.
