CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Aug. 12, 2013) – The Colorado Rapids Reserves defeated Chivas USA 2-1 Monday morning at the StubHub Center’s Field 6 thanks to two late scores by Dillon Serna and Gabriel Torres. The Goats took the initial lead on Gabriel Farfan’s score in the first half and held the lead until the 83rd minute when Colorado scored twice in a span of two minutes for the road win.

The Red-and-White took a one-goal advantage in the 25th minute when Farfan got on the end of Aaron Ponce’s cross from right side of the box and toward the far post. Farfan made his run to the left post and sent a one-time volley past Colorado goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Colorado got into promising spots from the right side on a number of crosses from Marvell Wynne to Danny Mwanga. In the 26th minute, Wynne sent a high cross into the box that caused Chivas goalkeeper Patrick McLain to come off his line to break up the threat. In the 34th minute Wynne and Mwanga tried to combine again but the forward’s header was off frame.

The sides exchanged scoring opportunities as Jose Manuel Rivera took a pair of dangerous free kicks for the Rojiblancos on frame that Pickens came up big on to turn away and keep the Rapids in the match. Colorado midfielder Jamie Smith twice got into range and nearly equalized for his side in the 57th and 65th minute, but McLain was solid and managed to get a hand on both shots to push the attempts wide of the left post.

After knocking on the door throughout the match, the Rapids turned the advantage around and took the lead on a pair of tallies in the 83rd and 84th minute to cap off the comeback. Smith led Serna into the box with a chipped pass over the top and the rookie midfielder then worked the ball across the area and created space for himself to put it past McLain for the equalizer.

A minute later, Colorado's recently signed forward from Panama - Gabriel Torres - took control of a turnover and worked the ball into the box and placed his strike toward the upper left corner of the net for the 2-1 game-winner. Watch the goal above.
