Rapids Reserves fall 1-0 to LA Galaxy

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Sunday, July 28, 2013) – The Rapids Reserves fell by a 1-0 score to the LA Galaxy Reserves on Sunday morning on Field 20 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, with Chandler Hoffman scoring the only goal of the match in the 24th minute. Matt Pickens played the full 90 in goal for the Rapids, his second full appearance since returning from injury.

After a slow start to the game, the Galaxy took the lead in the 24th minute when Mike Stephens found Kenney Walker on the left side of the 18 yard box who played a square ball across for Hoffman to one-touch into the net. Rapids midfielder Kamani Hill almost equalized in the 36th minute but his shot deflected off the right corner of the goalpost and out of danger. In the second half, Colorado winger Tony Cascio had several opportunities that were saved by LA keeper Brian Rowe.

The Rapids Reserves now hold a 3-5-1 record, while the Galaxy Reserves maintain their first place standing in the West Division with a 4-1-2 record. The Rapids Reserves next face Chivas USA Reserves on August 12 in Los Angeles, while the Galaxy Reserves will take on the San Jose Earthquakes at home on September 1.

The Colorado Rapids first team will look to continue their six-game unbeaten streak this coming Saturday against rivals Real Salt Lake in the final leg of the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup. The game is at 6:30 p.m. on August 3 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, with Rapids play-by-play man Richard Fleming and former U.S. National Team star Marcelo Balboa on the call live on Altitude.
