The Colorado Rapids’ third round U.S. Open Cup match at Orlando City SC of the USL Professional Division (USL Pro) this Tuesday, May 28 will stream live through USL Live, the USL's live streaming page. The coverage of the match, with Orlando’s Jeff Radcliffe on play-by-play and Tom Traxler on color commentary, will begin at 5:30 p.m. MT (7:30 p.m. ET), live from the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
The Rapids, along with other MLS teams, start their participation in the U.S. Open Cup in the third round, facing Orlando of the third-tier USL Pro. Tuesday’s match will be eleventh straight U.S. Open Cup match the Rapids have played on the road, dating back to 2007. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, an annual knock-out tournament featuring soccer teams from all levels of American soccer (from amateur through MLS), is in its 100th year, making it the oldest continuously-running soccer competition in the United States.
This is Colorado’s 13th time participating in the U.S. Open Cup, where they’ve earned a 9-12-0 all-time record. The Rapids have only hosted four of 30 combined Open Cup and Open Cup Qualifying matches since 1996 (their first year in the tournament) and Tuesday’s match will be their eleventh consecutive on the road. Colorado's last Open Cup home match was July 10, 2007, a 3-1 win over the Carolina Victory in the 3rd Round of the tournament.
The furthest the Rapids ever made it in the tournament was in 1999 when they advanced to the final to battle the Rochester Rhinos (A-League) for the title of U.S. Open Cup Champions but fell 2-0 after not allowing a goal in their three previous matches. Since then, the Rapids have only made it as far as the quarterfinals.
