Commerce City, Colo. - The dream that Daniel Navarro has to one day play for the U.S. National Team will have to begin elsewhere. The Massachusets-born defender who grew up in Brazil was one of three players released from the Rapids preseason camp following the opening week. Also not returning for the second week are former MLS goalkeeper Steve Cronin and Gambian forward Edrissa Jara.
One new trialist who took part in Monday's training session is defender Draymond Washington (pictured above), who just finished his fourth year at George Mason University. Washington appeared in 68 matches for the Patriots and was converted from forward to defense before his senior season. He was being observed at left back in his first practice with the Rapids.
Denver-native Isaac Cowles, who along with Sam Archer was identified at the tryout combine and invited to preseason, sprained his left ankle towards the end of the first week and has been sidelined while on crutches.
