How long have you supported the Rapids?
16 years.
What got you involved with the team?
Some friends brought me out to a match. I had been a supporter of the Tampa Mutiny in the late 90s until they disappeared. My friend argued that the Rapids also had Carlos Valderrama, so it was okay that I support them now.
Since joining the fan base, what has been your favorite memory involving the team?
There was a season ticket holder party in 2009 or 2010 at a Marriott conference center downtown where we played board games with players and got to really form relationships with them outside of supporting them on the pitch.
Who is your favorite player, current or former, to watch and what made you a fan of them?
Matt Pickens was truly a joy to watch play, and we also became close friends outside of matches.
What is the most memorable game you’ve attended?
November 23, 2021 was really exciting to be playing on the national stage on Thanksgiving Day in between NFL games on television. Although the outcome wasn't great, the attendance was amazing, the weather was right, and it seemed like it was going to be a match for the history books.
How do you draw in other friends and family to games to become fans?
Firstly, I get them interested in the C38 tailgate. Once they come out for that and watch a match and join in on the C38 chants and shenanigans, they're hooked.
What makes C38 unique from other fans in the stadium and how would you go about recruiting a casual fan to C38?
Well, we don't sit down during the match. Instead, we sing loud and proud for our boys in burgundy. We also support the Rapids through thick and thin. It's no secret we've had a few years of poor showings, but no matter how the boys are doing during the season we stand with them. We try to invite casual fans to our tailgates and to our sections to show them how we celebrate the Rapids, and for the most part people enjoy the atmosphere a little more than sitting in other sections.
What is your hope for the future of C38 and the possibilities of expanding the fanbase this season and beyond?
I hope that we can continue to collaborate with, and be more vocal with, the Rapids behind the scenes. As for expansion, I know the addition of live music at our tailgates has really helped our growth. I also hope we can continue to do more events centered around charity work for the many communities we come from through our Oar Foundation.
What is your favorite piece from the new line?
I like the scarf a lot, but also the black top with crossed flag and oar.
