Week 4: Bassett & Wilson Named to MLS Team of the Week Starting XI

Midfielder Cole Bassett and defender Danny Wilson earned MLS Team of the Week honors after leading Colorado’s come-from-behind victory over Minnesota in Week 4. View the full lineup here.

19-year-old Bassett sparked the Rapids when he came on in the 27th minute with Colorado already trailing 2-0 on a soggy Saturday night in Commerce City. The Rapids Academy product drove Colorado forward in the second half, leveling the score in the 71st minute with another late run to put away the rebound on defender Sam Vines’ cross. That followed Kellyn Acosta's excellent volley from distance in the 57th minute, which was nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, to put the Rapids on the board and within one goal of Minnesota.

Wilson, who has been integral in the Rapids’ two clean sheets so far this season, earned a spot on TOTW’s three-man back line thanks to his game-winning header in the 82nd minute. Captain Jack Price curled a free kick from deep on the right wing perfectly onto a leaping Wilson. “The Scottish Salmon's” goal coincided with his 50th start of his Rapids career and comes one week after making a goal-line clearance to preserve a 1-0 road win against Vancouver.

Bassett and Wilson are the first Rapids players to be named starters to the MLS Team of the Week this season. Forward Diego Rubio and goalkeeper William Yarbrough were named to the TOTW Bench in Week 3 for a free kick golazo and a clean sheet in the victory against Whitecaps FC.

In addition, Acosta is in the running for Goal of the Week, following his volley that opened up scoring and sparked the Rapids comeback on Saturday night.
