GAME INFORMATION
FC Dallas vs Colorado Rapids
Saturday, March 23 - 3:55 PM
Toyota Stadium - Frisco, Texas
With a break in the weather, the Rapids elected to head back to DICK'S Sporting Goods Park for training after two weeks at the Denver Broncos facility in Dove Valley.
The players had a regeneration session on Monday following their 1-1 draw to Sporting Kansas City the night before, then returned to the main pitch for regular session on Wednesday. A large group of Rapids Development Academy players were invited to provide bodies for 11v11 action, allowing the first team some action against a full formation.
The team caught an early flight to Dallas on Thursday morning where the final two training sessions ahead of Saturday's game at Toyota Stadium will take place.
The trip is a special one for midfielder Kellyn Acosta, who makes his first trip back to Frisco since he joined the Rapids on July 23, 2018. Acosta was developed in FC Dallas Academy and spent his first six years in Major League Soccer with the Texas club.
"It's a weird feeling being back in Frisco on the opposition this time," said Acosta. "I'm definitely excited. It's going to be a good game."
Hudson, Acosta and Sjöberg spoke to media following Thursday's session sharing insights on the rivalry, gameplan and mindset ahead of Saturday's meeting.
WHAT THEY SAID
Head Coach Anthony Hudson
"The conversations amongst us have been about knowing exactly what they do, and exactly what we're going to do, and making sure that we're coming here for nothing other than three points."
Midfielder Kellyn Acosta
"It’s going to be a good test for us playing against a rivalry team in our conference. We’re looking for our first win and it’s going to be a battle so hopefully we can do the things we need to do right and come out with the three points."
Defender Axel Sjöberg
"It’s very important. We’ve had a lot of tough matchups against Dallas throughout the years. Just in my four years that I’ve been here there’s been a lot of good games so we’ve always managed to put up a good fight in Dallas so we’re going to try to do the same come Saturday."
