MLSSoccer.com Recap:
The Colorado Rapids got closer to securing a playoff spot on Wednesday, beating Seattle Sounders 3-1 at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park.
The Rapids got off to a quick start, scoring on the game's first shot in the 11th minute. Nicolas Benezet's ball found Sam Vines on the left wing, and he then crossed the ball into the box where Andre Shinyashiki was waiting. Shinyashiki then scored from a header for his third goal of the season.
The Sounders made their way back into the game from that point, and did not have to wait very long for an equalizer, which they scored in the 22nd minute. Kelvin Leerdam sent the ball through a pair of Rapids players, where it met Cristian Roldan on the right wing. Roldan then crossed the ball into the box, where Jordan Morris scored from close range.
The Rapids restored their lead just three minutes before halftime through Keegan Rosenberry. The Rapids earned a corner, which was quickly deflected out of the box. Rosenberry was waiting outside of the box when the ball fell to him and he hit it on the volley to give the Rapids a 2-1 lead, and they did not look back.
The Rapids were in many ways more dominant in the second half, and scored a third goal to indicate that dominance in the 75th minute. Jack Price's freekick from the left side of the pitch made the long journey towards goal, where Cole Bassett scored from close range to put the game out of reach and bolster the Rapids' campaign for a playoff spot.
