COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids 2 has been named the MLS NEXT Pro Team of the Month for May, the league announced today.
“We are extremely proud of the environment that has been created around this team,” said Brian Crookham, Rapids 2 General Manager. “The ability to compete at the top of the league while consistently providing support to the first team and giving opportunity to younger players speaks volumes about the players and staff we have in the system.”
Colorado has been off to a hot start this season with an 8-0-2 record, the only team in the league that remains unbeaten. As the Rapids head into Week 11 of the 2023 season, they are looking to set a new record for the longest unbeaten streak in MLS NEXT Pro history, which currently stands at 10 matches.
In addition to its unbeaten streak, Rapids 2 is currently tied for most goals scored in the league (27) and leads MLS NEXT Pro in most assists recorded (21). Midfielders Yosuke Hanya and Oliver Larraz lead the league for most goals scored and assists recorded, respectively. Hanya is tied with LA Galaxy II’s Aaron Bibout for the lead in league goals with seven goals, while Larraz is tied with Tacoma Defiance’s Paul Rothrock for the most assists this season with five.
Rapids 2 currently sit atop the league standings as they head into their weekend match against Earthquakes II at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park (6 p.m. MT; MLSNEXTPro.com).
