COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Rapids 2 midfielder Robinson Aguirre has been called up to El Salvador’s national team, the Salvadoran federation announced last week. Aguirre will attend camp and train with La Selecta ahead of its international friendly against Peru on Tuesday, September 27, at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.

Aguirre previously spent time with the El Salvador U-20 youth national team in this year’s Dallas Cup where the team made a run all the way to the final. The Rapids Academy product and Rapids 2 midfielder earned his first call up to the senior El Salvador national team earlier this year when he competed with

La Selecta in their international friendly versus Guatemala on April 24. The 17-year-old midfielder logged 45 minutes in the team’s 4-0 loss to Guatemala. On May 1, Aguirre earned his first start under Hugo Perez in the team’s friendly versus Honduras.

“It is great to have El Salvador recognize Robinson again with this call-up to the national team,” said Brian Crookham, Rapids 2 General Manager. “It is significant that he is consistently in consideration at a young age. Robinson has been a staple of the Rapids 2 midfield during the team’s first year in MLS NEXT Pro and it is encouraging to watch him continue his development at the international level as he pursues the next step of his career.”

Aguirre joined the Rapids 2 squad at the start of the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro season as a product of the Rapids Academy. As of the team’s last match versus Houston Dynamo 2, Aguirre has recorded 14 starts in 1,175 minutes of play, registering one goal and one assist.
