Rapids 2 midfielder Robinson Aguirre has been called up to the El Salvador U-20 national team where he currently occupies a spot on the team’s preliminary roster. Aguirre joined the team earlier this week in the country’s capital of San Salvador for the final training camp ahead of the CONCACAF Qualifiers in Honduras.
The team is set to train in San Salvador until June 5 before playing two international friendlies against Mexico on June 9 and June 11. The U-20 squad will then travel to Honduras for the first round of qualifiers to take on Guatemala, Aruba and Panama starting on June 19.
Aguirre’s call up comes off the heels of his debut with the El Salvador national team where he premiered in
La Selecta’s international friendly against Guatemala on Sunday, April 24. On May 1, the 17-year-old midfielder earned his first start for Hugo Perez in the team’s friendly versus Honduras. Aguirre previously spent time with the El Salvador U-20 national team in this year’s Dallas Cup where the team made a run all the way to the final.
Aguirre joined the Rapids 2 squad at the start of the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro season as a product of the Rapids Academy. The young midfielder has logged six starts for Rapids 2 this season and has been a stalwart of the Rapids attack.
