The Colorado Rapids returned from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase in Florida with an overall 3-2-1 record.
For the U-18/19s there was a little bit of everything, as they opened with a 2-0 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Thursday, before following that with a 4-0 success over Concorde Fire. Goals came from Aymaro Vargas, Noah Boettiger, Oliver Larraz, and Paul Elliott. Boettiger’s goal aside, all others came from the penalty spot.
Marcelo Balboa’s team wrapped-up the showcase on Sunday with a second successive shutout, as they tied Crew SC Academy 0-0.
The U-16/17s were involved in games with goals. In all, 13 goals were scored across their three contests, which opened with a 2-1 win over Crew SC. The Rapids, under Erik Bushey, came from a goal down to win, thanks to Jason Robles and Logan Dorsey.
Robles struck twice in game two, as Chargers SC were defeated 3-1. His brace came either side of the game-winner … from goalkeeper Andrew Cordes.
The Rapids took the lead through Vladimir Walent in their final game, while Robles bagged his fourth in three outings, but two goals in the final 10 minutes allowed Chicago Fire Soccer Academy to claim victory 4-2.
