The weekend’s games at home to Real Colorado may have been short on goals, but they were not without incident for the Rapids’ Development Academy.
All three senior sides kept clean sheets, though both the U-18/19s and U-16/17s were held scoreless by their neighbors. The U-16/17s also played out the final 23 minutes with 10 men after Adan Perez was dismissed for a second caution.
The U-15s also ended a man down, but they were already 3-0 up when Brandon Casales saw red for a second yellow. Casales had earlier scored the game’s third goal, following strikes from Maclovio Swett and Ethan Ballek. Ballek would add a fourth for the Rapids in the latter stages.
It has been a busy few days for the U-14s. They have played four games in two days in Oceanside, California, as part of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s regional showcase.
They began with a 1-1 tie against Los Angeles Football Club on Sunday. Ezekiel Anderson was the scorer. Following that they were undone 3-0 by Total Futbol Academy. On Monday, they slipped to a 1-0 loss against Los Angeles United Futbol Academy, and then went down 3-1 to San Jose Earthquakes, with Anderson again the scorer for the Rapids.
It proved a tough weekend for the U-13s. They began with a 2-0 win over LA Galaxy on Friday, through Andre Romo and Jacob Lahlou, before losing to Strikers FC, Sacramento Republic FC, and Portland Timbers without again finding the net.
