COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, August 15, 2012) – The United States Women’s National Team’s 2012 Victory Tour will come to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, as the gold medal-winning group hosts Australia in an international friendly at 8:00 p.m. MT on Wednesday, September 19.
Ticket information will be available at a later date.
“This match is a wonderful opportunity to see some of our country’s best athletes, right after winning a gold medal in London,” said Rapids President Tim Hinchey. “We’re thrilled to welcome the United States Women’s National Team to our stadium, and excited that soccer fans of all ages from throughout Colorado will get to see these champions.”
The Denver area will be the site of the USA’s third stop on the Victory Tour, celebrating the team’s third straight gold medal and fourth gold medal overall as it defeated Japan 2-1 on Aug. 9 to cap off the 2012 London Olympics in front of more than 80,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium. The match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN3.
The U.S. has faced Australia 21 times and holds an impressive 19-0-2 record in a series that dates back to the USA’s 6-0 win on Dec. 16, 1987, in Taipei, Taiwan. Recently, Australia has called up Brook Spence, a defender and captain of the Colorado Rapids Women, who played for Australia against Japan in a July friendly. In the only previous U.S. Women’s National Team match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the U.S. edged Brazil 1-0 on July 13, 2008.
The Colorado Rapids take on Chivas USA this Saturday, August 18 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, with a Coca-Cola Family Pack available for just $49 that includes 4 tickets, 4 meals, and 4 Coke products.
